CÜNEYT KAYA was born in 1980 in Berlin, where he works and lives even to this very day. Before devoting himself to film, he studied mathematics at the Freie Universität Berlin. From 2004 to 2006, he created several documentary films about refugee development in Europe, as commissioned by the EU. In collaboration with local filmmakers, he conducted research and shot footage in England, Poland, Italy and Spain over a course of several months. In 2009 and 2010, he co-wrote and co-directed the film “Die Summe meiner einzelnen Teile” alongside Hans Weingartner. After his feature film “UMMAH – Unter Freunden” debuted, he shot the TV film Dimitrios Schulze (based on a book by Fred Breinersdorfer) commissioned by SWR/Degeto. 2016 he went on to shoot “Verpiss dich, Schneewittchen” with comedian Bülent Ceylan in the lead role. In the same year he developed the screenplay “Gorillas” with Detlev Buch and Constantin Lieb – based on a shortstory entitled ” Der Schlüssel” from Ferdinand von Schirach- which will be directed by Detlev Buck in Berlin later this year.
