Cast Your Vote: Which Environmental Initiative Deserves the Spotlight at Frieze Los Angeles 2024?

Frieze Los Angeles is supporting three environmental causes: solar energy in sub-Saharan Africa, kelp forests in Santa Monica

At Frieze Los Angeles 2024, Frieze is actively promoting global environmental initiatives. Visitors to the fair and frieze.com users have the opportunity to support their preferred eco-friendly project through the Pinwheel platform, where they can both vote and make donations. Frieze commits to doubling the funding for each chosen project, up to a maximum of £20,000.

Participate by voting for one of these top three environmental projects:

  1. Revitalization of Kelp Forests in Santa Monica Bay: The Bay Foundation is dedicated to the restoration of the kelp forests off Southern California's coast. These forests, essential for over 700 marine species, also combat coastal erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. The foundation's scuba diving teams have successfully rejuvenated kelp forests that had disappeared for decades, contributing significantly to marine biodiversity and environmental health.

  2. Providing Safe, Eco-friendly Lighting in Sub-Saharan Africa with SolarAid: With nearly 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa living without electricity, SolarAid aims to replace harmful kerosene lamps with sustainable solar lights. This initiative not only improves air quality but also supports education and work after sunset. SolarAid's approach of selling rather than donating these lights ensures customer rights and fosters local solar entrepreneurship.

  3. Preserving Biodiversity in the Eastern Andes through Art to Acres: The collaboration with Art to Acres focuses on conserving over 53,000 acres in the Eastern Andes of Ecuador, a habitat for diverse species like the mountain tapir and spectacled bear. This initiative supports local communities in protecting their ancestral lands and securing clean water sources, contributing to the conservation of 32 million acres and a significant amount of underground carbon.
