Resilience Tested: Rebound Road Under Rockwool

The Rockwool Denmark team hit turbulence mid‑season in 2025 but is fighting back strong. A major foil collision in Los Angeles sidelined them for two events—but with a rebuilt boat and fresh leadership, the Danes aim to claw back position in the championship and impact standings.

The Team

  • Driver: Nicolai Sehested, leading the team since 2021 and known for his tactical foil control.

  • Crew: In 2025, the mixed roster includes Olympic gold medallist Anne‑Marie Rindom steadily returning to form post-pregnancy—plus new wing-trimmer Ed Powys (transferred from Australia).

The Owners & Management

  • Ownership: Fully private under ROCKWOOL’s backing since 2021.

  • Management: Tanguy Cariou recently stepped in as Team CEO, ushering in a stability-first era.

The Partners

  • Title Sponsor – ROCKWOOL: Continues its lead role, doubling down on sustainability and high‑performance engineering.

  • Technological Support: SailGP’s tech team provided critical foil repairs—though damaged parts delayed returns.

Key Facts

“Foil collision sidelines entire USA double‑header”

A crash with a course marker in LA on March 15–16 caused extensive damage; repairs couldn’t be completed in time, costing Denmark participation in LA and San Francisco and triggering a –8 championship points penalty.

“Return in New York marks a cautious reset”

Rockwool Denmark rejoined at New York's Grand Prix, finishing 6th—ending a nearly three-month race absence and regaining competitive rhythm.

“Team rebuild sparked by new leadership”

With CEO Tanguy Cariou onboard and fresh crew reinforcements (like Ed Powys), the team refocused on resilience and is aiming to bounce back in upcoming European legs.

The Lowdown

  • Performance: After a rocky mid-seaon, Denmark showed promise with a 6th-place return in New York. They’re ranked around 7th–9th overall, but still within striking distance given SailGP's tight scoring.

  • Identity: High-tech precision sailing meets corporate sustainability identity—this underdog squad is leaning into strategic rebuilds and community messaging.

  • Growth Direction: Upcoming European events (Portsmouth, Sassnitz) offer opportunities for redemption—as rock-solid reliability in Tech and management remains top priority.

Bottom Line: Rockwool Denmark enters the back half of the 2025 season battle-tested. With leadership shifts, a rebuilt boat, sustainability branding, and an experienced helmsman, they're primed for a comeback—momentarily down, but not out.
